Notes from the Field

In a sector where distance and opacity often obscure impact, Catona built an in-house production team to bridge the gap between global investors and on-the-ground realities. The goal: create immersive, tactile documentation of carbon projects that captures not just what’s happening—but how it feels. With drone flyovers, close-up textures, photogrammetry, and cinematic interviews, Catona brings viewers into the heart of each project, offering high-resolution insight into ecosystem shifts, community engagement, and field-level expertise.
This production capability allows Catona to go beyond metrics—layering sentiment analysis, stakeholder interviews, and rich visual storytelling into a qualitative narrative. Whether it’s a macro shot of a rare plant, the voice of a project lead, or the sweep of a restored landscape, the footage gives buyers, investors, and partners a transparent, firsthand understanding of systems change without ever leaving their desk.

Behind each shoot is a detailed pre-production process, including collaborative shot lists and storyboarding sessions with investors, project developers, and partners to align on goals and messaging. Our lean production team synced travel and gear with existing site visits, minimizing disruption while maximizing coverage. On the ground, the team operated with a documentary eye—capturing candid moments, ambient detail, and unscripted interviews that bring the real story to life.

Photogrammetry

Using photogrammetry and LiDAR-equipped phones and drones, the team captured high-resolution 3D scans of project sites—ranging from full 360° land overviews to close-up macro details of native plant restoration. These scans actively track ecological transformation over time, from seed to mature vegetation, while also highlighting vital infrastructure like solar panels, irrigation systems, and electric fencing that support long-term success. By visualizing these interconnected systems in an intuitive way, the models simplify complexity, strengthen investor confidence, and clearly show where catalytic capital can drive accelerate impact.
